A Reflection on 2019

As part of our events calendar in 2019 we co-hosted a charity dinner with the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) in March for Bowel Cancer Isle of Man and Monitors4Kids. We were pleased to welcome former BBC Chief Political Correspondent John Sergent, who spoke at the event.

Our ‘Morning Chatter’ events also proved very successful throughout the year. These included talks from the Information Commissioner, Finance Agency, FSA and Ship and Aircraft Registries. We also attended and spoke at the Hedge Fund Emerging & Start-Up Manager Forum in London in May, hosting the drinks reception.

We continue to work with the Finance Agency to promote the Isle of Man wealth and funds industries with on and off-Island events.

Regulatory Update

The regulatory sub-committee were kept busy responding to consultations on the new AML/CFT Code and changes to the financial services legislation, meeting with the Information Commissioner following his insightful Morning Chatter talk and contributing to the new National Risk Assessment which has now been published here. Off the back of January’s Morning Chatter on Digital Transformation, we are meeting with the FSA in February to discuss the use of electronic signatures and electronic identification and verification procedures. If you would like to participate or have issues you would like us to raise please get in touch. We are also looking for volunteers for the regulatory sub-committee. Please email if you can assist.

Monthly Morning Chatter

In 2019 we held successful monthly breakfast ‘Morning Chatter’ events, including talks from the Information Commissioner, Finance Agency, FSA and Ship and Aircraft Registries.

We kick started 2020 with Chris Corlett discussing Digital Transformation on 16 January. Looking forward we have Chris Kelly of Ernst & Young providing an update on economic substance requirements in light of new guidance on 20 February and an update from Carolyn Gelling of The International Stock Exchange providing an update about the exchange on 30 April.
